Join us at the Citizen OCP Workshop Thursday, October 26th.
You spoke, we listened — and here’s what we heard. Our starting point for the evening will be to provide a summary of what we heard from you — residents of Lake Country — this past summer.
View the public engagement summary report.
Sign up for #FrogTalks and the District will pick up the tab (up to $50) for dinner. Invite your neighbours over and have a conversation about your vision for Lake Country. Discuss the following 5 questions:
1) What do you love about Lake Country? (areas, activity, culture etc.)
2) If you overheard someone describe Lake Country in 20 years, what community descriptions would make you happy?
3) Are there some things you see in our community today that concern you? What would you change about Lake Country to make it even better?
4) What makes Lake Country a place that can support a big variety of families, seniors and businesses? How can we improve it?
5) The District has chosen to support the development of town and neighbourhood centres to preserve agricultural and environmental lands. What would make these town and neighbourhood centres better?
Choosing Our Future is about engaging with YOU, the people of Lake Country. It’s about our future as a strong, resilient, beautiful community.
The District of Lake Country is updating its Official Community Plan (OCP) and we need your input!
What is an OCP you ask? It’s a guiding document that’s common to every municipality in British Columbia. Choosing Our Future will take a 25+ year glimpse into the future of the District of Lake Country. It will reflect our vision, values, and plans for change.
Choosing Our Future will help Council when making decisions on important issues such as housing, land use, transportation, our natural environment, economic development, and recreation, for example.
A community vision can not be created without consulting our community. So we’re asking you to show up, participate, and tell us what makes Lake Country the best place to live in BC.
We’ll be popping in to listen at various community events throughout the summer of 2017. In the fall, we will be back in the community to report on what we heard and ask – did we get it right?
Join us for our Kick Off event…
On June 7th at 7pm, we will gather for On Point: Choosing Our Future in Lake Country. Please join us for a casual evening of Okanagan beer, wine, food, music, and art where we will hear from community leaders and you — residents interested in the future of Lake Country.
Our starting point for the evening will be to provide a greater understanding of what an Official Community Plan is, why it’s important, and how you can get involved.
Throughout the evening, we intend to promote and facilitate meaningful community dialogue where there is as much positive focus on the District of Lake Country as there is focus on local challenges. Conversations will be themed around key subjects relating to growth and change in the community.
This celebration will include a small panel of storytellers — members of the community — local artists, poetry, and art. Part of the evening will focus on generating conversation amongst community members.
So come on out for an evening of fun, food, and fresh ideas!
Schedule for the evening:
